Alexei Ogrintchouk is recognised across the world as an oboist and artist of astounding technique and virtuosity. This is coupled with a profound lyricism and a highly original musicality. In 2005 he was appointed first solo oboist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Amsterdam under Mariss Jansons. Prior to this, he was Valery Gergiev’s first solo oboist at the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, a position which he secured at the age of 20.
Ogrintchouk now combines his orchestral commitments with both solo and conducting engagements. A charismatic soloist, he has performed under the baton of conductors such as Mariss Jansons, Valery Gergiev, Fabio Luisi, Daniel Harding, Andris Nelsons, Gianandrea Noseda, Stephane Deneve, Tugan Sokhiev, Jaap van Zweden and Susanna Malkki. He has performed with the world’s greatest orchestras - the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Budapest Festival Orchestra, Orchestre de l'Academia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Kontzerthausorchester Berlin, Beethovenhalle Orchestra Bonn, Basel Symphony Orchestra, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, all the Orchestras of the BBC, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestre National de Belgique, Europa Galante, Orchestras of the Bolshoi and Mariinsky Theatres, Russian National Orchestra, and Kremerata Baltica.
As a conductor he has led Camerata RCO (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra), Orchestre de Besancon, Amsterdam and Riga Sinfonietta, Kremerata Baltica, Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla, Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra and the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra.
In the 19/20 season, Alexei Ogrintchouk will appear as soloist with the Wroclaw Philharmonic, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and will conduct and play with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de Pays de Loire, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and the Brussels Philharmonic.
Ogrintchouk is also a consummate recitalist and chamber musician and his chamber music partners include Gidon Kremer, Leonidas Kavakos, Julian Rachlin, Fabio Biondi, Dmitri Sitkovetsky, Nikolai Znaider, Yuri Bashmet, Tabea Zimmermann, Maurice Bourgue, Radu Lupu, Leif Ove Andsnes, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Alexander Lonquich, Sergio Azzolini, Thomas Quasthoff, Misha Maisky, as well as the Belcea,

He has performed in major halls throughout the world and is a frequent guest at festivals such as BBC Proms, MIDEM, Colmar, Lockenhaus, Verbier, Luzern, Berliner Festspiele, Santa Cecilia, Edinburgh International Festival and the White Nights, Svyatoslav Richter December Nights and Easter Festival in Russia.
Alexei Ogrintchouk’s first CD with the works by Schumann was released on Harmonia Mundi’s "Nouveau musicians" Series to exceptional reviews. His discography includes the world premiere of the slow movement of Beethoven Oboe Concerto (Raptus classics), music by Britten (Record One), Skalkotas (Bis Records), Mozart Oboe Concerto with the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra (Pentatone). His three most recent CDs includes Bach Oboe Concertos, Mozart Oboe Concerto and Quartet, a 20th Century Recital and the Strauss Oboe Concerto (all on BIS Records).
A graduate of the Gnessin School of Music and the Paris Conservatoire, where he studied with Maurice Bourgue, Alexei Ogrintchouk is originally from Moscow and by the age of 13, was already performing across Russia, Europe and Japan. He is the winner of a number of international competitions including the prestigious CIEM International Competition in Geneva in 1998, the European Juventus Prize in 1999, a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award winner in 2007 and was part of the prestigious Rising Stars and BBC New Generation Artists Programmes.
Alexei Ogrintchouk has succeeded Maurice Bourgue as Professor of Oboe at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Geneve in 2011 and is in great demand as a guest professor and for public masterclasses.
